Alabama makes it official: Presidential electors cast votes for Donald Trump

For the third time in eight years, Alabama’s nine presidential electors gathered Tuesday to cast their votes for Donald Trump.

The ceremony at the Alabama Capitol coincides with the electoral votes in the 49 other states and the District of Columbia.

Trump got 65% of the vote in Alabama on Nov. 5, exceeding the 62% he got in 2016 and 2020.

Nationally, Trump carried 31 states and won the popular vote 49.9% to 48.4% for Vice President Kamala Harris.

Alabama’s electors are William McCall Harris Jr., Renee’ Gentle Powers, Jacquelyn Gay, Mike Dean, Lance Bell, Bonnie Sachs, James T. Hanes Jr., Chris Brown, and Rick Pate.

Congress is scheduled to certify the results on Jan. 6, which will be the fourth anniversary of the day rioting Trump supporters disrupted the certification of Joe Biden’s election victory.

Trump will be inaugurated on Jan. 20.
