Pedestrian dies after being struck by a car in Butler County

A pedestrian has died from his injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Butler County on Saturday evening.

At about 5:30 pm on Saturday, Elgin C. McMeans, 75, was walking about one mile north of Georgiana, in the road on U.S. 31 near the 122-mile marker, said Vu Quang, spokesperson for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA). Jarvarous M. Lett, 28, of Peterman, was driving a Ford Escape that struck McMeans, who was critically injured.

McMeans was transported to Regional Medical Center of Central Alabama in Greenville, where he died from his injuries.

Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are investigating the incident.
