Former Alabama All-American scores his first NFL touchdown

As an offensive tackle, Jonah Williams doesn’t get hardly any opportunities to score touchdowns. But when one was presented on Sunday, the former Alabama All-American cashed it in for the Arizona Cardinals.

On a second-and-3 snap at the New England Patriots 8-yard line, the Cardinals had wide receiver Greg Dortch scamper around left end. But he fumbled when wrapped up by former Dadeville High School and Alabama standout Anfernee Jennings, who is a linebacker for the Patriots.

The loose football bounced off Dortch’s leg and was about to skitter across the end line when Williams fell on it for a touchdown as Arizona took a 10-0 lead with 1:21 left in the first quarter at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Williams’ second fumble recovery produced his first touchdown in his 64th NFL regular-season game. There had been some question if Williams would play on Sunday because of a late-week illness.

A unanimous All-American for Alabama in 2018, Williams entered the NFL as the 11th selection in the 2019 draft. He spent his first five seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals before joining the Cardinals in March in free agency.

Williams sustained a knee injury in Arizona’s season-opener that caused him to miss the next nine games. He was playing for the fourth time on Sunday since returning from the setback.
