Jalen Milroe discusses outlook of Alabama QB room for 2025

The Alabama football quarterback room will look different in 2025. The question is how different.

Dylan Lonergan plans to enter the transfer portal, a source told AL.com. And then Jalen Milroe has an NFL Draft decision to make. ESPN has him ranked as its fourth-best quarterback right now.

So if he does indeed go out for the draft, that would leave Ty Simpson and Austin Mack as the returners. Alabama will also add five-star freshman Keelon Russell.

Milroe was asked Thursday for his thoughts on what the quarterback room will be like in 2025.

“Next year, it’s going to be a really talented group that’s going to be in position to do a lot of special things next year,” Milroe said. “I’m excited for those guys for the opportunity that’s presented for them.”

Simpson is likely the player in pole position to win the starting job next season. He has spent three seasons with the program.

“I think he did a really good job of constantly trying to improve,” Milroe said of Simpson in 2024. “Trying to go 1-0. Just learning and growing as a quarterback. I’ve been in his shoes before, just being behind Bryce and learning each and every day to just try to be the best version of myself. That’s exactly what he does. Try to beat on his craft. Learn. Grow, and it’s been awesome just to see how much he’s grown as a quarterback and also as a leader. I’m behind him through this whole process and I enjoy being around him.”

Alabama will close out the 2024 season in the ReliaQuest Bowl in Tampa on Dec. 31. Milroe said he plans to play.
