Birmingham police release photos of car used in deadly apartment parking lot ambush

Birmingham police on Wednesday released two pictures of a car driven by the suspects who shot and killed a man inside his vehicle in an apparent ambush late last month as authorities seek tips on the homicide.

The brown Hyundai Sonata driven by the unidentified suspects during the fatal Nov. 21 shooting of Justin Grant in the parking lot of The Park at Wood Station Apartments has a switched tag and racing stripes from front to back, police said.

The vehicle had been spotted in the Norwood area of North Birmingham, and homicide detectives are seeking help in locating the car.

Shots rang out at the apartment complex in the 6000 block of Wood Station Drive, which is off First Avenue South in Woodlawn.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said at the the time of the slaying that police were dispatched to the complex on a report of a person shot.

They arrived to find the victim, later identified as Grant, 33, dead inside a vehicle from multiple gunshot wounds.

Fitzgerald said it appeared Grant was ambushed, possibly by multiple shooters.

At least 15 to 20 rounds were fired, if not more, he said. Witnesses said the victim’s vehicle was peppered by gunfire.

Anyone who has seen the vehicle has been asked to call CrimeStoppers at 205-254-7777.

Tipsters may remain anonymous and may receive up to $5,000 for their tips.
