Alabama football tight end plans to enter transfer portal

Alabama football tight end Danny Lewis Jr. will be entering the transfer portal, which opened Monday for undergraduate players. Lewis shared the news, originally reported by On3, to his social media accounts.

Lewis spent three seasons with the Crimson Tide, redshirting in 2023. He played in all 12 games this season.

The 6-foot-5, 257-pound tight end did not catch a pass in 2024. Lewis joined the Crimson Tide in 2022 as a three-star recruit from Louisiana.

“Danny Lewis has really come along,” Alabama tight ends coach Bryan Ellis said before the season began. “He brings another big-body guy that can put his hand in the ground and do a lot of things. He’s a weapon in the run game He’s strong, he’s physical.”

Alabama saw a flurry of portal entry news on Monday, after the College Football Playoff committee revealed Crimson Tide was left out of the 12-team field. Instead, UA will play in the ReliaQuest Bowl to end the season.

Wideouts Caleb Odom, Kendrick Law and Miles McVay all reportedly made portal decisions once the national championship quest was officially over.

The transfer portal opened Monday and will remain open for 20 days. Alabama will face Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Dec. 31.

That game is scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m. CT in Tampa. It will be aired on ESPN.
