Car crash leaves Alabama church in flames: ‘A total loss’
A Sunday morning car accident left an Alabama church engulfed in flames.
A male suspect crashed their vehicle into Rock Creek Church of Christ on Alabama Highway 31 at Mill Creek Road in Blount County. The accident sparked a fire in the building, which was unoccupied at the time.
The Blount County Sheriff’s Office said the driver, who is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, suffered injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.
The Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office and Alabama State Troopers arrived on the scene to investigate the incident.
Scott D. Crawford, an administrator for the Rock Creek Church of Christ Facebook page, posted a photo of the church in flames.
“Apparently a car ran off the road and struck the building thus morning,” Crawford wrote. “The building is a total loss. We are asking everyone to make plans to worship with another congregation today until we can make more concrete plans.”
