Jarran Reed reaches milestone with Seattle Seahawks in first place

The Seattle Seahawks defeated the New York Jets 26-21 last week in a milestone game for nose tackle Jarran Reed — his 100th regular-season appearance for the franchise.

The victory gave the Seahawks a one-game lead in the NFC West. At 7-5 with five weeks remaining in the regular season, Seattle has a one-game lead on the Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams and a two-game cushion on the San Francisco 49ers.

To keep that lead, the Seahawks will need to win Reed’s 101st game with Seattle.

The Seahawks play the Cardinals at 3:05 p.m. CST Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Seattle has won its past three games, and the middle victory came against the Cardinals 16-6 on Nov. 24.

Arizona lost three of its first four games in 2024, winning the only one in which it produced more than 300 yards in total offense. The Cardinals have failed to gain at least 300 yards in only one game since – the loss to the Seahawks.

Sacked 21 times in 12 games this season, Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray endured a season-high five of those sacks against Seattle. Reed shared a sack with Leonard Williams, who had 2.5 in the game.

“I think we made some progress on stopping the run early on in the downs to get them pushed back a little bit for us to be able to rush,” Reed said. “And I think when we did rush, we rushed well collectively together.”

Reed became the second Alabama alumnus to play in 100 regular-season games with the Seahawks, joining running back Shaun Alexander.

“It means a lot,” Reed said of the milestone. “I’m doing something right. Hopefully, I can keep doing something right. I really didn’t even notice it until I think my mom had said something. We were just talking on the phone. I was like, dang, that is a lot, especially for an organization. I’m blessed. I’m just thankful to be here that I can keep doing something right to keep me around. I was to keep it that way.”

Forty-two players who played at Alabama have appeared in 100 regular-season games with one franchise. Reed and four other players in that group are currently playing with their 100-game franchise. The others are Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey, Indianapolis Colts center Ryan Kelly and Washington Commanders defensive tackles Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne.

Unlike those four players, Reed hasn’t spent his entire NFL career with a single team. A second-round draft pick of the Seahawks in 2016, Reed played for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021 and the Green Bay Packers in 2022 before returning to Seattle.

“I knew I was coming back,” Reed said. “In my opinion, I always say I felt like I shouldn’t have left. But like a bunch of learning curves, man, you live to learn. It was good to go play for two other organizations. I played for two other great coaches. Now I’m playing for my fourth great coach.”
