Saban calls out Kirby Smart, Steve Sarkisian leaves them in stitches, adds to swear jar

The question to both Georgia’s Kirby Smart and Texas’ Steve Sarkisian was pedestrian.

Leave it to Nick Saban to spice things up with two of his former assistant coaches.

Rece Davis asked the coaches Saturday on the set of “College GameDay” ahead of the SEC Championship Game heading into a rematch about balancing adjustments you make for your team vs. anticipating the adjustments the opponent makes.

“I don’t think you overthink it,” Smart said. “I think you do simple better. Block, tackle is what it comes down. Everyone wants to make it about scheme, but a lot of times it comes down to players, not the scheme.”

Sarkisian agreed.

“I think you hit the nail on the head,” the Texas coach said. “We always use the analogy, you never want to get paralysis by analysis. You overanalyze, then your players start performing the way they can play. Take in the information, then you prepare them to go play.”

That’s when Saban chimed in

“I think they are both bullsh—ing us,” Saban quipped.

“Let me say this. I only say that because we played in a lot of big games together, these two guys being on our staff. These two guys were the best I have ever been around at getting a team ready to play the big game. These two guys are fantastic.”
