Les Claypool bringing Sean Lennon, Adrian Belew to the Mobile Saenger
Les Claypool, the bassist and songwriter known for his pioneering work with rock group Primus, is coming to the Mobile Saenger Theatre with a lineup that includes Sean Lennon, legendary guitarist Adrian Belew and a set of Pink Floyd covers.
The June 19 concert, announced Tuesday, is a stop that Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade will make on its 2023 “Summer of Green” tour. The Frog Brigade, one among Claypool’s numerous collaborations and projects, has featured a variety of lineups; it also has been dormant, with this tour billed as its first in 20 years. According to lesclaypool.com, this outing will feature “Sean Lennon on guitar, Harry Waters on keys, and Paolo Baldi on drums, along with longtime cohorts Skerik on saxophone, and Mike Dillon on percussion.”
Lennon, the son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, has previously worked with Claypool in a group called The Claypool Lennon Delirium.
The tour announcement also said that each night on the upcoming tour will feature a full performance of the Pink Floyd album “Animals.” The album has been a part of the Frog Brigade repertoire since at least as far back as 2000.
According to promotional materials, the tour will feature two special guests of note: Talking Heads keyboardist and guitarist Jerry Harrison and guitarist Adrian Belew. Belew’s role in King Crimson made him a progressive rock icon, but his credits go far beyond that, including work with Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Talking Heads, and other acts of note.
According to liveformusic.com, the upcoming run with the Frog Brigade extends a Talking Heads-centric tour by Belew and Harrison:
“Talking Heads veterans Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew will continue their celebration of the band’s landmark 1980 album ‘Remain In Light’ with the addition of 18 new tour dates. Many of the concerts will see Harrison, Belew, and a backing band featuring former Turkuaz members sharing the bill with Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade.”
Tickets for the Mobile show go on sale at 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, via Ticketmaster. Prices start at $45.50.
