No firm timeline for overdue Space Command reviews, 2 agencies say
Two mandated reviews of the Air Force’s selection process for U.S. Space Command headquarters are months overdue, as expectations mount that a new presidential administration will again name Huntsville as its home.
Then-President Donald Trump supported the 2021 decision to locate the command headquarters at Redstone Arsenal, which President Joe Biden reversed last year in favor of Colorado Springs, Colo. Trump has taken personal credit for the choice of Huntsville, AL.com reported.
U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, who chairs the House Armed Services Committee, added a provision to last year’s National Defense Authorization Act that prohibited spending money on Space Command’s headquarters pending the outcome of reviews by the Government Accountability Office and the Department of Defense Inspector General. That blocked construction of the facility at Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs.
