DC Blox bringing new, large data centers to two Alabama locations
DC Blox is planning to build two new large scale data centers for Alabama.
The digital infrastructure company, which brought the first phase of a data center to Birmingham in 2019, will develop hubs for Montgomery and Huntsville, as well as another for Augusta, South Carolina. The company previously announced one for Conyers, Georgia.
The centers are described as hyperscale edge node sites, which are built to satisfy large scale data needs.
According to the company, the Montgomery facility will initially support five megawatts for a hyperscale anchor tenant, with capacity to expand up to 40 megawatts to accommodate additional tenants.
Huntsville will be to provide five megawatts of power. DC Blox currently has a data center located near Redstone Arsenal, the Marshall Space Flight Center and Cummings Research Park that opened in 2018.
Shelby Stringfellow, senior vice president of economic development at the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, said the decision to locate a site in Montgomery “highlights our city’s emergence as a prime destination for cutting-edge digital infrastructure in the Southeast.”
Earlier this year, Meta announced plans to build an $800 million data center in Montgomery, off Interstate 65 across from Hyundai’s automotive assembly plant, creating 100 jobs.
“This new investment is a significant achievement for Montgomery, reinforcing our business-friendly environment and setting the stage for transformative growth,” Stringfellow said.
DC Blox is in the midst of beefing up its services throughout the Southeast to keep up with blooming corporate digital demand. In 2022, it announced an expansion of its Birmingham center.
The company has also announced its Atlanta East Campus, located just 24 miles east of downtown Atlanta, and its plans for a dark fiber ring around metro Atlanta.
