Plot twist: Hallmark Christmas movies come to life at new immersive experience

Fans of Hallmark movies can find all the spirit of the season – and perhaps even romance and a surprise snowfall – at a new Christmas event hosted by the channel itself. For the first time, Hallmark is turning the town of Kansas City, Mo., where it is headquartered, into a Christmas wonderland each weekend beginning the day after Thanksgiving through Dec. 22, 2024.

The Hallmark Christmas Experience will offer plenty of free family activities on “The Square,” created to be just like the quaint small towns featured in the films. There will also be paid, ticketed events that include seeing their favorite Hallmark stars – including Andie MacDowell, Lacey Chabert and Kevin McGarry – and learning from the artists and writers who make Hallmark Greeting Cards. Just a few of the other stars attending are: Melissa Peterman from the sitcoms “Reba” and “Happy’s Place,” Taylor Cole, Aimee Garcia, Tyler Hynes, Andrew Walker and B.J. Britt. See the full list and the dates they’ll attend here.

Events and activities will take place at Crown Center in Kansas City, located right outside Hallmark’s headquarters. In a press release, Hallmark describes the inaugural event as “a free, open-to-the-public, immersive experience with all the charm of a Hallmark movie town square. There will be so much to explore, including a Christmas market, tree lightings, a card sending station, and light walk.”

Free family activities include, the press release says, “a Christmas market, Holiday Hallmarket which includes Hallmark artist booths and Hallmark merchandise, Festive Food Hall, tree lighting and light shows on the 100-foot Mayor’s Christmas Tree, a light walk, ice-skating on the Crown Center Ice Terrace, card-sending and gift wrap stations, a Crayola community mural, and festive photo ops.”

Activities begin on Nov. 29. The Square will be open each weekend, from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays. If you choose to attend a paid event, you can find a list of options here. Tickets start at $50 for workshops with Hallmark artists and writers and $75 for “exclusive events with your favorite Hallmark stars.” Tickets are also available for Breakfast with Santa, $30 for a child and $50 for adults, and pop-up cocktail bars, beginning at $60. Tickets are limited.
