Mobile County sheriff’s office requests help in Mt. Vernon killing

The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office detectives are asking for the public’s help as it investigates a killing that occurred Friday in Mt. Vernon.

Detectives are investigating the death of James Pendleton, who was found shot and pronounced dead and found at 19370 St. Stephens Road. The shooting occurred sometime before 9:30 p.m.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, two other family members were in the house at the time Pendleton was shot. One of the family members said that someone knocked on the door, Pendleton opened it, and was shot. The witnesses said that two men were involved in the shooting.

Pendleton was able to run back into the house, and told his family members to lock the door, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The family members called 911.

Inside the home, Sheriff’s detectives found a 9mm unspent cartridge, marijuana and an undisclosed amount of cash.
