Saban paints bus in new ESPN ‘GameDay’ commercial, pays tribute to Ben

Nick Saban is back at it in ESPN’s latest commercial for “College GameDay.”

The former Alabama coach – and the GameDay crew – are in Athens ahead of the Georgia-Tennessee this weekend. Ahead of the broadcast, however, Saban was tasked with painting the bus. His colleagues – Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Coros and Desmond Howard – certainly made their opinions known.

It didn’t go unnoticed, however, that Herbstreit’s dog, Ben, who recently passed away, got a special moment in the commercial.

The commercial, called “Freshman Again,” pokes fun at the fact that it is Saban’s first year with the “GameDay” crew.

“Don’t worry, fifth times the charm,” Herbstreit said.

Ben had become a fixture around the set at College GameDay and various college and NFL games Herbstreit worked in the last two years, traveling with Herbstreit wherever he went and becoming a certified emotional support animal. The 10-year-old golden retriever had been battling cancer, which Herbstreit said last week had spread to Ben’s vital organs.
