Alabama saw nation’s 7th highest gas price increase in the last week
You’re probably tired of hearing this familiar refrain – gas prices are up again, after creeping downward in late 2022.
According to AAA Alabama, the average price of a gallon of unleaded gasoline in Alabama is $3.30, an increase of 12 cents in a week’s time, and 39 cents more than it was a month ago. A year ago, gas was at $3.07 a gallon across Alabama.
According to AAA, Alabama saw the seventh highest increase in gas prices over the last week. Colorado was the highest, with a price hike of 18 cents over the last seven days.
The national average is $3.50 a gallon, according to AAA.
That’s a far cry from the all-time average – $4.63 a gallon, recorded across Alabama on June 14 last year. But why is the price going up?
According to analysts, the familiar culprits of demand and higher global oil prices are pushing prices higher. Mild weather got drivers out in droves, while the price of oil is stubbornly sticking to about $80 a barrel.
But that could change, as winter weather may curb some driving.
The cheapest average gallon of gas can be found in Russell County, at $3.25, followed by Decatur, at $3.26. Dothan had the highest average prices, at $3.33.
According to GasBuddy.com, the cheapest gas in the state can be found at the Circle K on U.S. 80 in Phenix City, at $2.83 a gallon.
