59-year-old killed in west Birmingham crash now identified

Authorities have released the name of a 59-year-old man was killed in a Friday crash in west Birmingham.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday identified the victim as Makhturmino. He was 59 and from Indonesia.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates explained that the victim had no surname, which is common for Indonesia.

Makhturmino listed a work visa address from Arkansas. He was identified through fingerprints.

The wreck happened at 11:48 a.m. Friday in the 1500 block of Bankhead Highway.

Yates said the victim’s vehicle crossed over into the opposing traffic lane and struck another vehicle.

Makhturmino was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:24 p.m.
