SEC top 10 from Week 10: Jaxson Dart outpaces Archie Manning versus Alabama

Every team in the SEC has at least one league loss after Week 10 of the 2024 season, with South Carolina’s 44-20 victory over Texas A&M on Saturday spoiling the Aggies’ perfect conference record with four Saturdays remaining before the SEC Championship Game. In addition to the five league games on Saturday, the SEC also had two non-conference victories to move its mark against outside opponents to 46-8 in 2024. Here are 10 stats from SEC Football by the Numbers about Week 10:

0 Snaps were taken in the red zone by the Auburn offense during the Tigers’ 17-7 loss to Vanderbilt on Saturday. The Vanderbilt 26-yard line was the closest the Tigers got to the red zone, with Auburn’s touchdown coming on a 30-yard pass. Vanderbilt did not make its first snap in the red zone until 7:40 remained to play. The Commodores’ seven red-zone snaps came on a 14-play, 78-yard drive that took 8:53 and helped Vanderbilt post an 11:03 to 3:57 time-of-possession advantage in the fourth quarter. During the drive, an Auburn personal-foul penalty on a 26-yard field goal allowed the Commodores to turn three points into seven by trading the field goal for a first down at the Tigers 4-yard line. The Commodores won for the first time in 10 tries at Jordan-Hare Stadium even though Auburn outgained them by 100 yards and Vanderbilt had the shortest longest running play in the SEC this season. The Commodores’ longest run from scrimmage in the game came on its first red-zone snap when QB Diego Pavia went for 7 yards.

5 TDs and 254 yards on eight receptions for Ole Miss WR Jordan Watkins in Saturday’s 63-28 victory over Arkansas on Saturday. Watkins had six TD receptions in his 33 games at Ole Miss entering Saturday’s contest. LSU’s Carlos Carson set the SEC single-game record with five TD receptions in a 77-0 victory over Rice on Sept. 24, 1977. Carson’s record was matched by Vanderbilt’s Earl Bennett in a 48-43 loss to Kentucky on Nov. 12, 2005, South Carolina’s Sidney Rice in a 45-6 victory over Florida Atlantic on Sept. 23, 2006, Alabama’s DeVonta Smith in a 59-31 victory over Ole Miss on Sept. 28, 2019, and Tennessee’s Jalin Hyatt in a 52-49 victory over Alabama on Oct. 15, 2022. Watkins’ receiving yardage ranks 12th for one game in SEC history and broke the school record of 233 receiving yards by A.J. Brown in a 47-27 victory over South Alabama on Sept. 2, 2017.

11 Interceptions in the past five games for Georgia QB Carson Beck after he had been picked off six times in his preceding 17 starts. Beck was intercepted three times by Alabama, Texas and Florida and twice by Mississippi State (with Auburn failing to get an interception) in the Bulldogs’ past five games. In addition to three interceptions during Georgia’s 34-20 victory over Florida on Saturday, Beck passed for 309 yards and threw for touchdowns when the game was tied at 13-13 and 20-20.

19 TD runs in 2024 for Tennessee RB Dylan Sampson after he scored twice in the Volunteers’ 28-18 victory over Kentucky on Saturday. Sampson broke the school single-season record for TD runs that had stood since 1929, when Gene McEver ran for 18. Sampson also became the second Tennessee player to run for a TD in eight straight games and the first to do so within one season. Jimmy Wade had a rushing TD in each of the final seven games of the 1953 season and in the first game of the 1954 campaign. Sampson ran for 142 yards on 27 carries against Kentucky, equaling the most rushing attempts for an SEC player this season. He also had 27 in a 23-17 overtime victory against Florida on Oct. 12.

31 Yards were lost by Florida on a single snap in the Gators’ 34-20 setback against Georgia on Saturday. With Florida in field-goal formation at the Bulldogs 33-yard line, the snap skittered past holder Jeremy Crawshaw all the way back to the Gators 36-yard line. Georgia scored three snaps later to take a 20-13 lead with 1:30 left in the third quarter.

54 More yards on one punt return by Vanderbilt CB Martel Hight against Auburn on Saturday than the Tigers had yielded on punt returns all season. Auburn’s opponents had returned five punts for minus-15 yards entering Saturday’s game, but Hight had a 39-yard return to the Tigers 21-yard line, setting up a field goal that broke a tie game with 1:05 left in the third quarter and sent Vanderbilt to a 17-7 victory. On the other side of the punt game, Vanderbilt’s Jess Micro had the most punting yards of any SEC player this season with 374 on eight punts against Auburn. The Tigers got 29 of those yards back on three returns.

69 Years since the previous time that Vanderbilt defeated Alabama and Auburn in the same season. The Commodores added a 17-7 victory over the Tigers on Saturday to their 40-35 victory over the Crimson Tide on Oct. 5. In 1955, Vanderbilt defeated Auburn 25-13 in the Gator Bowl on Dec. 31 after posting a 21-6 regular-season victory over Alabama on Oct. 1. Since the 1955 victories, Vanderbilt has posted a 5-47 record against Alabama and a 3-14 record against Auburn. This season was the 12th since the 1955 campaign in which Vanderbilt played both Alabama and Auburn. Before 1955, Vanderbilt played Alabama and Auburn in the same season 13 times and swept those games in eight seasons – 1905, 1919, 1929, 1930, 1934, 1947, 1949 and 1950.

74 Yards for Oklahoma RB Jovantae Barnes on a rushing attempt in the first quarter of the Sooners’ 59-14 victory over Maine on Saturday. That was 4 more yards than any Oklahoma player had gained on the ground in a game this season, topping the 70 by Barnes in Oklahoma’s 35-9 loss to South Carolina on Oct. 19. Barnes finished the game with the SEC’s second 200-yard rushing performance in 2024 as he went for 203 yards and three TDs on 18 carries. Barnes’ 74-yard run was the second-longest non-scoring rushing attempt in the history of Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, behind a 76-yard run by Max Boydston in a 47-0 victory over Iowa State on Nov. 14, 1953.

144 Yards and two TDs on 20 carries for RB Raheim Sanders in South Carolina’s 44-20 victory over Texas A&M on Saturday after he had run for 129 yards with no TDs on 34 carries in three games against the Aggies at Arkansas. Achieved with 515 passing yards and 47 rushing yards, Dart’s total is tied for the fourth-most in SEC history and broke the school single-game record set on Oct. 4, 1969, by Archie Manning with 540 yards (436 passing, 104 rushing) in a 33-32 loss to Alabama. Dart broke the Ole Miss single-game record of 513 passing yards achieved by Matt Corral in a 59-42 victory over South Carolina on Nov. 14, 2020.
