Rewinding everything Hugh Freeze said to recap Auburn’s 17-7 loss to Vanderbilt

Auburn fell short once again on Saturday, this time losing to Vanderbilt 17-7.

The Tigers could never find enough offense to break away in the game and the loss drops them to 3-6 on the season. It‘s also Auburn’s third consecutive home loss.

Hugh Freeze is set to speak to reporters shortly following the game. Follow along here for updates from his postgame press conference:

  • Freeze starts by saying, “This has been too often a story this year for us.”
  • When asked why the team isn‘t meeting expectations, Freeze says they’re not consistent enough. Also talks about the offensive struggles combined with special teams mistakes.
  • Freeze says he thinks the defense is playing well enough to keep them in games.
  • Freeze says Jarquez Hunter “looked gassed” but said he didn’t think he was hurt. Hunter had two carries in the second half.
  • When asked about the leverage penalty on the field goal, Freeze said he disagreed with the call and said he didn’t think the player landed on the Vanderbilt offensive lineman.
  • Freeze said calling a timeout at 2:01 left in the game was a “bad decision.” The clock would have stopped a second later at the two-minute timeout.
