Notable: The Trojans are loaded with experience, returning eight of their top 10 from last year in scoring and minutes played and seven of their top nine in rebounding. … The Trojans are picked third in the conference by league coaches, behind only Arkansas State and defending league champion James Madison. Cross has posted three straight 20-win seasons, a first for Troy in the Division I era. … Myles Rigsby was a preseason All-Sun Belt first-team selection after earning conference Freshman of the Year honors last season. Conerway is a second-team pick after being named Sun Belt Sixth Man of the Year in 2023-24. … The Trojans are vying for their first NCAA tournament berth since 2017. They also made it in 2003, their only other tournament trip as a Division I program. … Troy will have two sets of brothers on its team this year in the veteran Rigsbys and the incoming Campbells. Cobi Campbell was an All-America pick as a freshman at North Idaho College in 2023. … Cross’ son, Austin, is a freshman guard for the Trojans this season.
Cross says: “I don’t think there’s any more outside pressure than we would normally put on ourselves. I mean, we expect to win every game, and that’s the way we approach it. And we really don’t worry about external expectations because we can’t control it. We just worry about the things that are within our control, and that’s what we talk to our guys about every single day. So that’s kind of where our focus is, is just getting better every single day.”
