Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix wins NFL award for October play
Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix is the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for October, the NFL announced on Thursday.
In four October games, Nix completed 82-of-123 passes for 870 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception and ran 29 times for 149 yards and two touchdowns as the Broncos won three times.
A former Pinson Valley High School and Auburn standout, Nix joined Denver as the 12th choice in the NFL Draft on April 25. He has started all eight games for the Broncos this season, becoming the first Denver rookie to start five victories at quarterback.
In Sunday’s 28-14 victory over the Carolina Panthers, Nix completed 28-of-37 passes for 284 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions and ran for a touchdown. The only Denver players with at least three touchdown passes and one touchdown run in the same game before Sunday were John Elway (who did it twice), Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler, and each of those players threw at least one interception in the three-and-one game.
Against Carolina, Nix became the fourth rookie this century to post a game with at least three touchdown passes, one touchdown run and a passer rating of 120 or higher. He followed another former Auburn QB, Cam Newton in 2011, as well as Deshaun Watson in 2017 and Justin Herbert in 2021.
Nix is the first Denver player to win the Offensive Rookie of the Month Award since running back Clinton Portis in October 2002.
Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Beanie Bishop was selected as the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for October.
