Magic City Classic 2024: A guide to parties, events, parking, game-day shuttles
The 83rd edition of Magic City Classic week is here, and culminates with a showdown between the Alabama A&M Bulldogs and Alabama State Hornets on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Legion Field, 400 Graymont Ave. West in Birmingham.
The annual matchup is the largest Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Classic in the country, and the all-time record is 43-36-3, with Alabama A&M leading the series
Here’s what you need to know for Classic week.
WEDNESDAY
The Annual Green Carpet Affair set for Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Birmingham Museum of Art is sold out. Tickets are no longer available. Attendees must have pre-registered to attend this free event. You must have a ticket to enter. Clear bag policy will be enforced. Cocktail attire.
Battle of the Choirs, featuring choirs from Alabama A&M and Alabama State universities will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 6 p.m. at Sardis Missionary Baptist Church (1240 4th St N, Birmingham, AL 35204). Doors open at 5:45 p.m. Free admission.

THURSDAY
Magic City Classic Tailgate Festival, featuring Fantasia, SWV and Too Short will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, at Railroad Park (1600 1st Ave S, Birmingham, AL 35233). Sherri Brown, Logan The Entertainer, James Crumb & KB, and the AAMU and ASU drumlines will perform. Free admission. Gates open at 4 p.m., pre-show at 5 p.m., show will start at 6 p.m. Clear bag policy will be in place.

FRIDAY
The Rickey Smiley Morning Show will do a live broadcast from the BJCC Concert Hall (2100 Richard Arrington Jr Blvd N, Birmingham, AL 35203) on Friday, Oct. 25. Doors will open at 4:15 a.m. The show will start at 5 a.m. Featuring Gary with Da Tea, Da Brat, Rock T, Special K and Maria Moore.
A Classic Food Truck Block Party, Friday, Oct. 25, will be held in front of Birmingham City Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Featuring DJ Rowdy Rod. Line dancing with Tracy Williams and her Sensational Seniors will be at 12:30 p.m.
The following trucks are slated to attend: Fat Charles, Jolly Cakes, Lemonade Junkeez, Yummy Ice, Naughty But Nice Popcorn, Terrific Treats, Cake’s Southern Fried Eats, Frozen Rooster, Yo Chef!, Berries By Crystal, O’ My Turkey Leg, 1918 Catering, Lil Bougie burgers, Travis, Luvin Lemonade, Treats So Sweet, Hit Different BBQ & Grill, Not Your Average Leaf and King Vee’s Hotdog Cart. Fly V will also be selling its Classic Vibes T-shirts and sweatshirts and Breast Cancer Awareness Month T-shirts.
The Classic Kid Capri Party will be held on Friday, Oct. 25 at Regions Field (1401 1st Ave S, Birmingham, AL 35233). Doors open at 9 p.m, and the show starts at midnight. Reserved VIP seating and tables are available.

GAMEDAY PARKING
Limited gameday parking is available in advance for Lot F. Each transaction is limited to one parking pass and each parking pass is $58.45.
SHUTTLES
On Thursday, MAX Transit will offer complimentary Birmingham Rapid Transit (BRT) and Magic City Connector service for the Magic City Classic Tailgate Festival at Railroad Park.
Locations: Birmingham Crossplex 2340 Crossplex Blvd, Birmingham, AL 35208), Boutwell Auditorium (1930 Reverend Abraham Woods Jr Boulevard, Birmingham, AL 35203) and Park Place (Seventh Ave. North and 23rd Street North).
All shuttle routes from the three locations will take you to Legion Field and back to your designated location for $5. Kids age 6 and younger can ride the shuttle for free. Credit cards are the only accepted payment.
The shuttles will run from 9 a.m. until two hours after the game ends.

The Magic City Classic Parade will be in downtown Birmingham at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26. Visit www.magiccityclassic.com for the route. Actor Omari Hardwick, known for his starring role in the Starz series “Power,” is this year’s Classic ambassador. (Applications to be in the parade are now closed.)
Before the game, there’s the free Coors Light Tailgate Party from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on west side of Legion Field stadium for entertainment and giveaways.
The Magic City Classic Football Game will take place at Legion Field on Saturday, Oct. 26. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. Gates will open at 12:30 p.m. A clear bag policy will be strictly enforced. Everyone must have a ticket to enter, including children. Also, shuttles will be available at three locations for $5.
Tickets to for the game are $25 general admission, $35 reserved, available via the Magic City Classic site and at Legion Field at Gate 7C.
