First Mobile city council candidate announcement: Reggie Hill seeks District 2 seat

A community activist who shows up to as many council meetings as some of the current members, often speaking his mind on the hot button local issues of the day, says he is running for the Mobile City Council District 2 seat.

Reggie Hill, who calls himself “arguably one of the most engaged Mobilians ever to participate in the local government sector,” will seek the council seat during the Aug. 26, 2025, election.

“In my District — District 2 — there are constituents who live on Section 8 and constituents who own mansions on Government Street,” Hill said in a statement Tuesday. “I have served as a county election officer for them all, and even those economically in between. It is far past time that our city’s most diverse district finally has representation who embodies the needs of every single one of our fellow citizens.”

Hill said his priorities include on some of the following: repurposing on the Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center area to capitalize on the Waterfront’s potential, advocate for the legalization of gaming in Montgomery and to repurpose GulfQuest Maritime Museum, revamp BayFest musical festival, restore Hank Aaron Stadium and return minor league/development league sports to the vacated venue, modernize outdate drainage systems, eliminate privatization of city contracts, dissolve “baseless fees” for the use of community centers, create more youth-based initiatives, and pass a city budget that “reflects the best interest of all Mobilians.”

Hill, a graduate of Murphy High School, has more details about his candidacy at www.electreggiehill.com. He is known among those at Government Street, often attending council meetings and speaking at most of them.

Hill is executive director of the organization “Success 4 the Future.”

Hill ran for the council seat during the 2021 elections, finishing fifth out of six candidates who ran that year. He had 190 votes, or 3.96%.

The incumbent District 2 Councilman William Carroll has not announced his plans for 2025. Candidates have plenty of time to do so. Qualifying for city office doesn’t begin until July 1, 2025, and ends on July 15, 2025.
