Alabama football DB Keon Sabb ‘down for a while’ with injury
Alabama football will likely be missing one of its top defensive backs for an extended period. On Monday, Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer said veteran safety Keon Sabb suffered a “lower-extremity” injury against Tennessee on Saturday.
“We’re still gathering information here,” DeBoer said during his weekly press conference. “But we do expect him to be down for a while. So, that could be an extended amount of time and we’ll just continue to evaluate that.”
Sabb has been one of the Crimson Tide’s top DBs throughout the 2024 season. He transferred in from Michigan this offseason, after helping the Wolverines to a national title and Rose Bowl win over Alabama.
DeBoer said the rest of the Alabama defensive backs were expected to be healthy for Saturday’s matchup with Missouri. That included Red Morgan, who left the Tennessee game early and did not return.
The Tide will need some of its younger players to step up going forward, starting with Saturday’s game against the Tigers in Tuscaloosa. Bray Hubbard saw significant playing time in the 24-17 loss to Tennessee, and DeBoer emphasized his importance moving forward.
“Every week he’s worked to be ready,” DeBoer said. “And we had no doubt that he would be, come Saturday when he was called upon. And he’ll go out there again this week, and our team really believes he does a lot of things on special teams, and you can see it every day in practice.”
Alabama and Missouri are scheduled to kick off at 2:45 p.m. CT Saturday in Tuscaloosa. The game will be aired on ABC.
