Plane crashes near Childersburg; pilot injured
Emergency responders say a plane has crashed near U.S. Highway 280 in Talladega County, southeast of Birmingham.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency says the plane crashed at approximately 5:40 p.m. Saturday in a field near Meadow Farm Lane.
Authorities say the pilot of the twin-engine plane was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified and is currently responding. Alabama state troopers with ALEA’s highway patrol division and deputies from the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office are securing the scene.
The Childersburg Fire and Rescue Department advised residents at 6:13 p.m. to steer clear of the crash site for now.
“Avoid this area if at all possible as multiple crews local, state and federal will be on scene for a very extended amount of time,” the department posted on Facebook. ”More information will be made available as necessary.”
