Opening date set for Alabama’s newest Costco warehouse store

The wait for Alabama’s newest Costco location will soon be over.

The superstore recently announced the location on Highway 72 in Madison will open Nov. 15 and will include a pharmacy and tire service center. The Madison Costco’s gas station has already opened.

The Costco site is beside Jack Clift Boulevard inside the boundaries of the large mixed-use Clift Farm development at 8094 Hwy. 72 West. The boulevard is the main entrance to the Clift Farm development where commercial and residential development has been growing steadily in recent years.

North Alabama residents have been wanting a second Costco to meet demand and take some of the load off the popular Costco on Memorial Parkway north of University Drive. That store is frequented by shoppers from across north Alabama and middle Tennessee.

The Costco development is one of the most expensive projects in the Huntsville area this year.

Two building permits were first issued in July totaling $19 million, according to Southern Exposure Information.

One of the permits was issued for a 172,327-square foot facility valued at $17.6 million. Southeast Industrial, LLC, is listed as the builder. The company lists several Costco locations among its projects.

The second permit was issued for an 8,127 square foot facility valued at $1.8 million. The permit was issued to the Jones Covey Group, which specializes in gas stations.

There are four other Costco locations throughout the state, including one in Huntsville.
