Live updates: Kalen DeBoer previews Alabama vs Tennessee on ‘Hey Coach’ radio show

Alabama football coach Kalen DeBoer is still looking for his first SEC road victory.

He’s got two home wins in the conference against Georgia and South Carolina. But the Crimson Tide fell to Vanderbilt in the one road trip so far this season.

This weekend, Alabama heads back to the state of Tennessee to face the other SEC team in the state: the Vols.

Before the No. 7 Crimson Tide (5-1, 2-1 SEC) travels to face No. 11 Tennessee (5-1, 2-1) on Saturday (2:30 p.m. CT, ABC), DeBoer will participate in his weekly radio show “Hey Coach” on Wednesday with the radio voice of the Crimson Tide, Chris Stewart.

Alabama football’s Kalen DeBoer on ‘Hey Coach’ before Tennessee

First segment:

  • Kalen DeBoer starts the show talking about the win over South Carolina.
  • “Every win is important.”
  • DeBoer talking about the onside kick: “To do it off the drop kick like we saw, that’s pretty hard to simulate.” Either way, DeBoer said Alabama has to find a way to get it.
  • DeBoer stressing the 1-0 mindset Alabama has to have, “flushing” plays as he frequently talks about.
  • DeBoer on Malachi Moore telling Domani Jackson to get out of the end zone on his interception: Said it wouldn‘t have been a touchback. Would have gotten the ball on the 1 or 2-yard line because that‘s where Jackson started before his momentum carried into the end zone.
  • Peewee, the first caller as always, asks about blocking.
  • DeBoer said he doesn‘t know if Alabama has faced two edges as good as South Carolina’s so far this season.
  • DeBoer thinks Alabama has gotten better at maintaining blocks, but continued growth is important.
