Suspect charged in fatal East Lake shooting where victim collapsed, died in shed
A suspect is in custody in last week’s fatal shooting of another man in East Lake.
Anthony Rudolfo Major Jr., 27, is charged with murder in the death of 20-year-old Paul Devaried Terry Jr.
Major was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 1:48 a.m. Wednesday. He is being held without bond.
Just before 12:30 p.m. Friday, East Precinct officers were dispatched to a person shot in the 8300 block of Fourth Avenue North.
When they arrived, they found the victim inside a shed behind an abandoned house. That property is adjacent to East Lake Park.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced Terry dead on the scene at 12:40 p.m.
Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said Terry was in the neighborhood to visit someone at a home in the 8200 block of Fourth Avenue North.
The person he went to visit had another visitor – now identified as Major – and a verbal altercation ensued between Terry and Major.
The suspect fired at least several shots. Police found shell casings in the roadway.
Terry ran just over a block before collapsing in the shed. A bystander called 911.
The nature of the argument has not been disclosed.
