Rock icon updates wife’s rare blood cancer diagnosis: ‘It’s a tough disease’

Bruce Springsteen, in a trailer for an upcoming ABC News special, shared his thoughts into wife Patti Scialfa’s cancer battle after she revealed last month that she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2018.

“She’s doing good,” Springsteen, 75, said during the preview of “Bruce Springsteen: Backstage and Backstreets.” “We caught it early, which was important.

“It’s a tough disease,” Springsteen said of his wife’s cancer. “It’s very fatiguing.”

Scialfa, 53, because of the diagnosis, stepped away from traveling with her husband during the Springsteen and E Street Band tour, which kicked off in February 2023 and concludes July 2025.

She joined the band in 1984, and the couple married in 1991.

The special was filmed in anticipation of the release of Springsteen’s forthcoming Hulu and Disney+ documentary “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band,” which launches Oct. 25 on both platforms.
