An investigation is underway after a shooting on Birmingham’s busy Third Avenue West on Tuesday night left three people injured, including two children.

The gunfire erupted just before 8:15 p.m. in the 1400 block of Third Avenue.

Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said a man and woman and two juveniles were traveling when someone in another vehicle opened fire on the victims. Their SUV was struck at least a dozen times.

The adult man and one of the children sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The condition of the second child was not immediately known. .

The woman was not injured.

The investigation is in its early stages, and no arrests have been made.
