Harris vs. Trump latest presidential poll: Who is winning now? Gap is closing

The gap between the two candidates is closing ahead of the Nov. 5 presidential election, according to the latest poll.

The Morning Consult poll shows Vice President Kamala Harris leading former President Donald Trump by 4 percentage points – 50% to 46%, down from a 6-point lead in the previous update. Harris has a slight lead among independent likely voters – 46% – 42% – bolstered by a strong standing among Democrats and former Biden voters.

Ninety-four percent of Democrats are backing Harris compared to 92% of Republicans who are supporting Trump. Independents remain divided – 46% for Harris, 42% for Trump and 12% undecided.

Nationally, FiveThirtyEight.com’s average of all national polls has Harris up by 2.4 percentage points – 48.6% to 46.1%.

Favorability vs. unfavorability

The Morning Consult poll shows 53% had a favorable view of Harris compared to 45% who said they view the Democratic nominee unfavorably. Trump’s numbers are reversed – 53% had an unfavorable view compared to 45% who had a favorable view. Forty-eight percent said they had a favorable view of Harris’ VP pick, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, vs. 38% who view him unfavorably. Ohio Sen. JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, had a 41% approval rating and 47% disapproval rating.

What issues matter most?

The economy was the leading issue for the vast majority of voters with 77% putting it at the top of the list. That was followed by national security (72%), healthcare (70%) and jobs (70%.) Other top concerns were taxes (69%), Social Security and Medicare (67%) and immigration (67%).

The Morning Consult poll was conducted Oct. 11-13 among 8,647 likely U.S. voters with a margin of error of +/- 1 percentage point.
