Where does Derrick Henry rank among the NFL’s greatest players 125 games into his career?

The milestones and achievements are starting to pile up for Derrick Henry.

On Sunday, the former Alabama All-American ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries in the Baltimore Ravens’ 30-23 victory over the Washington Commanders. Henry became the first player since Pro Football Hall of Fame member LaDainian Tomlinson with the San Diego Chargers in 2005 to run for a touchdown in each of his team’s first six games of a season.

Henry also joined Robert Edwards of the 1998 New England Patriots as the only players in NFL history to record a rushing touchdown in each of his first six games with a team. Henry joined the Ravens as an NFL free agent in March after playing his first eight seasons with the Tennessee Titans.

“It’s a different kind of rushing attack with him because of the way he runs the ball,” Baltimore coach John Harbaugh said about Henry on Monday. “He’s just one of a kind. He’s one of one. Somebody asked me in the (network TV) production meeting this week, ‘Who do you compare him to?’ I’m like, ‘Man, who do you compare him to?’ I saw the Eric Dickerson article. OK, I think there is some similarity. I remember Eric Dickerson coming up. But after that, and even that, I don’t know, man. He’s one of one.”

In the Ravens’ previous game – a 41-38 overtime victory against the Cincinnati Bengals on Oct. 6 — Henry became the 27th player in NFL history to score 100 touchdowns and the 32nd player in league history with 10,000 rushing yards.

But where does Henry rank among the NFL’s greatest when they were at the same point in their careers? Sunday’s game was Henry’s 125th NFL regular-season contest.

Henry’s two touchdown runs against Washington lifted his career total to 98. Only four players in NFL history have run for more touchdowns than Henry in the first 125 games of their NFL careers – Tomlinson with 123, Emmitt Smith with 112, Jim Brown with 106 and fellow Alabama alumnus Shaun Alexander with 100.

With 164, Smith is the NFL’s career leader for rushing touchdowns.

Henry also has four touchdown receptions in his career, bringing his touchdown total to 102. Henry is tied for ninth in NFL history with Adrian Peterson for the most touchdowns in a player’s first 125 regular-season games. Tomlinson tops the 125-game list with 138 TDs.

The NFL’s all-time touchdown leader is Jerry Rice with 208. Through his first 125 games, Rice had 110 touchdowns, the sixth-most in that span.

Henry has 10,206 rushing yards, which ranks 14th among players in their first 125 games even though Henry spent his first two seasons as a backup to DeMarco Murray and made only four starts. Even in Henry’s third season, the Titans started Dion Lewis four times at running back.

The player with the most rushing yards in the first 125 games of his career is Dickerson with 12,420 (108 more than Brown, who played in 118 regular-season games in his NFL career). The NFL’s career leader in rushing yards is Emmitt Smith with 18,355. Smith is sixth on the 125-game list with 11,358 yards.

In rushing attempts, Henry’s 2,149 carries rank 26th among NFL players in their first 125 regular-season games. Henry is two spots behind Alexander, who had 2,187 at that point in his career.

The player with the most rushing attempts 125 games into his career is Edgerrin James with 2,783. Smith also is the career leader in rushing attempts with 4,409. In his first 125 games, Smith had 2,624 rushing attempts, which ranks as the fourth-most at that milepost.

With 1,507 receiving yards in addition to his rushing yardage, Henry has a career total of 11,713 yards from scrimmage. That ranks 28th among all NFL players in their first 125 games. The only non-running back ahead of Henry on the list is former Alabama wide receiver Julio Jones, who had 12,165 yards from scrimmage in his first 125 games and ranks 19th on that list.

The player with the most yards from scrimmage in his first 125 games is Tomlinson with 15,355. The NFL’s career leader for yards from scrimmage is Rice with 23,540. Rice had 10,700 yards from scrimmage in his first 125 NFL games.

Henry and the Ravens return to the field against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 7:15 p.m. CDT Monday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. ABC and ESPN will televise the game.
