Alabama basketball picked to win the SEC. Mark Sears top preseason honoree

Alabama men’s basketball is the predicted winner of the SEC for the 2024-25 season, according to media voting released by the conference Monday.

The Crimson Tide, ranked No. 2 in the first AP poll of the season, is fresh off its first Final Four appearance in program history.

Alabama is a preseason favorite for multiple reasons, but Mark Sears staying for one more season sits atop the list. He received the most votes for SEC preseason player of the year. He was also a first-team All-SEC selection.

Grant Nelson was voted to the All-SEC second team.

The Crimson Tide will hold two exhibitions against Wake Forest and then Memphis this month before the season begins on Monday, Nov. 4 against UNC Asheville. The exhibition against Wake Forest will be held in Birmingham on Friday. Meanwhile, the exhibition against Memphis will take place in Huntsville on Monday, Oct. 28.

Alabama will also take part in SEC Media Day on Tuesday in Mountain Brook.
