Alabama football flips JuCo edge commitment from Mississippi State

Alabama football took a junior college commit from one of its SEC rivals on Monday. Edge-rusher Kevonte Henry, from Cerritos College in California, flipped his commitment from Mississippi State to Alabama.

Henry announced the news on his social media, in conjunction with Hayes Fawcett of On3. He’s listed as a JuCo three-star prospect on the 247Sports composite rankings.

He committed to Mississippi State in June. Henry will have two seasons of eligibility remaining in Tuscaloosa.

Henry began his college career at Oklahoma. The 247 composite ranks him as the No. 4 JuCo player nationally, and the No. 2 defensive lineman.

He has 19 total tackles this season for Cerritos, including two sacks, and 5.5 tackles for loss, plus a fumble recovery. He also played for the Falcons last season.

Henry originally hails from Lawndale, Calif., where he played his high school football at Leuzinger. He is listed on Cerritos’ roster as standing 6-foot-5, and weighs in at 248 pounds.

Alabama’s recruiting class for 2025 is ranked as the No. 2 group nationally. The Crimson Tide sits behind only Ohio State according to the 247 composite.

Auburn sits in third, followed by LSU, Georgia, Texas and Tennessee. The next non-SEC school is Oregon, ranked eighth, with Texas A&M and Southern Cal rounding out the top 10.
