AL.com’s SEC football players of the week for Week 7
Here are AL.com’s SEC football players of the week for Week 7 of the 2024 season:
Offense
Dylan Sampson, RB, Tennessee — Sampson almost single-handedly provided the offense in the Volunteers’ 23-17 overtime win over Florida. The junior from Baton Rouge rushed for 112 yards and three touchdowns — including the 1-yard-game winner in overtime — as Tennessee rallied from a 10-0 third-quarter deficit.
Defense
Whit Weeks, LB, LSU — Weeks led the way for an LSU defense that totaled nine tackles for loss and six sacks in a 29-23 overtime win over Ole Miss. The sophomore from Watkinsville, Ga., set a career high with 18 tackles, in addition to two tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble and a pass breakup.
Special teams
Caden Davis, K, Ole Miss — Davis was outstanding in the kicking game in a 29-23 overtime loss to LSU. The senior from Coppell, Texas, made four of five field goals — including a 57-yarder in overtime — and both of his extra points, while also forcing touchbacks on all six kickoffs.
