Baker Mayfield reacts to Texas players planting flag, his jersey on field after win over Oklahoma
Baker Mayfield wasn’t fazed by the New Orleans Saints defense om Sunday, nor was he bothered by the Texas Longhorns’ planting a flag through his jersey at midfield after the Longhorns’ win over Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry day earlier.
Texas’ Anthony Hill Jr. and Barryn Sorrell planted a Longhorns flag through a Mayfield Oklahoma jersey after 34–3 win.
“Just a kid from Austin, Texas, that went to Oklahoma, won his last two Red River games, and being rent-free in their heads for almost a decade,” Mayfield said.
The two players took a Mayfield No. 6 jersey and placed it at the 50-yard line. The two then planted the Texas flag right through the jersey.
“I just felt like it was the right thing for me to do,” Hill Jr. said, per USA Today. “I’d seen all the stuff they (Oklahoma) posted last year, so I felt like it was right for me to get a little touch of something on them.”
Back in 2017, Mayfield took a Sooners flag and planted it at midfield of Ohio Stadium after a win over Ohio State.
Mayfield, meanwhile, overcame three turnovers on Sunday with 325 yards and four touchdowns passing, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the New Orleans Saints 51-27.
