93-year-old Dothan man killed in crash, 3 others critically injured

A Dothan man, Milan W. Marler, 93, died from his injuries in a two-vehicle crash that occurred at about 8:20 p.m. Saturday, according to a spokesperson from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

The crash occurred on Alabama State Route 53 near the 15 mile marker, approximately one mile south of Dothan, in Houston County, according to a press release from ALEA.

Marler was injured when the 2018 Toyota 4Runner he was a passenger in collided head-on with the 2000 GMC C1500 pickup driven by Harvey D. Burch Jr., 65, of Gordon.

Marler was transported to Southeast Health in Dothan, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Rita M. Watford, 68, was driving the 4Runner with Marler and Randy E. Watford, 64, as passengers when the crash happened. All were injured and transported to Southeast Health for medical treatment, according to the press release.

Burch, who also was taken to Southeast Health for treatment, was later booked into the Houston County Jail on a charge of murder, records show. His bond is set at $150,000.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division is still investigating the crash.
