9-year-old Huntsville boy paralyzed in drive-by dies months after being shot: ‘To know Kobe was to love him’

A family is attempting to raise money for the victim of a November drive-by shooting who recently died of his injuries.

Kobe Kyrie Theard, 9, died last month from health complications. His funeral is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Royal Chapel of Memories in Huntsville.

Theard was wounded in a drive-by shooting on Nov. 5, 2022 on Mount Vernon Road that is still under investigation by Huntsville police.

The shooting left Theard paralyzed from the neck down until his death.

The family is organizing a GoFundMe to pay for funeral expenses.

“To know Kobe was to love him,” a message on the GoFundMe page reads. “He was always so energetic, always smiling and most of all always had some type of ball in his hands that’s what he loved the most.”

Theard’s aunt, Angela Simpson, told WAFF that the boy “did not deserve to be going out of this world like this!”
