84-year-old woman dies days after multi-vehicle wreck in Fayette County

An 84-year-old woman died four days after she was involved in a multi-vehicle wreck Sunday in Fayette County, authorities said.

Phyllis B. Thompson, 84, of Fayette, was driving a 2009 Ford Focus around 5:15 p.m. Sunday on Alabama State Route 96 when her car struck a 2003 Pontiac Bonneville, said Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey.

After the collision, the Focus then struck an unoccupied 1984 Chevrolet S-10.

Thompson was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, Mississippi for treatment.

She died of her injuries Thursday, said Bailey.

The driver of the Bonneville was injured and taken to Fayette Medical Center.

Further information on the wreck, which occurred near Fayette County Road 21 — about six miles west of Fayette –, was unavailable as troopers continued investigating the crash.
