8-year-old boy steals vehicle, wrecks it after leading authorities on chase in Montgomery, police say
An 8-year-old boy is in a juvenile lockup after Montgomery police say he stole a vehicle and led authorities on a pursuit Tuesday morning before wrecking the vehicle in a collision.
Montgomery police and fire medics responded to a report of a robbery around 11:10 a.m. Tuesday in the 000 block of West Fairview Avenue, said Maj. Saba Coleman.
Police tried to conduct a traffic stop near East South Boulevard and Norman Bridge Road, but the vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit ensued, Coleman said.
During the chase, the stolen vehicle was involved in a collision with another vehicle at West Fairview Avenue and South Court Street.
There were no injuries in the wreck.
An 8-year-old boy was taken into custody and a weapon was recovered, Coleman said.
The boy was charged with first-degree robbery, attempting to elude and certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm because he is a minor.
He was taken to the Montgomery County Youth Detention Facility.
