8 charged, 2 sought in attack on Tuscaloosa County store clerk

Eight people have been arrested after as many as 10 people attacked a store clerk in Tuscaloosa County earlier this week.

The incident happened at 5:45 p.m. Monday at the Fosters Chevron on Highway 11 south.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the store on a fight call, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Inv. Jessica McDaniel. The nature of the initial dispute was not immediately clear.

Video posted to social media showed the female clerk talking with the suspects. The group then attacked her, taking her to the ground.

The clerk’s shirt was ripped and her face bloodied, video showed, but authorities said she was not seriously injured.

Those charged with third-degree assault are: Zy’Nyiaha Smith, 18; Azaria Clark, 19; Christian Hill, 22; Maya Patterson, 18; Nievia Washington, 19; Quantrese Washington, 18; Shakyiah Clark, 21, and Tanaiya Brown, 18.

Two other suspects are believed to be juveniles.
