76-year-old man killed in Bessemer house fire
Fire swept through a Bessemer home Tuesday, leaving one person dead.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Hurston Daniel Morris. He was 76.
Bessemer firefighters were dispatched at 5:17 p.m. to the residence in the 1000 block of 10th Avenue North. They were responding to a 911 call from a neighbor reporting the blaze.
Once they extinguished the fire, they found Morris unresponsive. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:40 p.m.
Fire officials are working to determine the cause and origin of the blaze. Bessemer police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
