76-year-old man held on $3.4 million bond for child porn possession charges

A 76-year-old Birmingham man is jailed with bond set at more than $3 million on child porn possession charges.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office on Monday announced the arrest of Stanley Andrews. The suspect was taken into custody Friday after months of investigation by detectives from the Shelby County and Marion County sheriff’s offices.

Andrews is charged with 10 counts of “possession of obscene matter containing visual depiction of persons under 17 years of age involved in obscene acts.”

The investigation began in January when Shelby County received a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Sheriff John Samaniego said investigators have no information that suggests the images were produced in or near Shelby County.

Andrews is being held on bonds totaling $3.405 million.

“The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office makes investigating the victimization of children a top priority,’’ the sheriff said, “and I am thankful that we were able to come together and close this case with an arrest.”

This investigation is ongoing, and anyone with additional information is asked to call the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office at 205-670-6000. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777, or on their website at www.crimestoppersmetroal.com.
