70-year-old Mobile County man stabbed, set on fire by teen, sheriff says

A Mobile County man was stabbed and set on fire Wednesday afternoon, with the primary suspect a teenager who had been living with the victim.

The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a residential fire on Army Road just before 5 p.m. Wednesday. The person who called in the fire said a man had been stabbed and set on fire.

Deputies arrived to find the victim, 70-year-old Neulan Sims, still alive. He was transported to an area hospital, where he died Thursday, according to the sheriff’s office.

Initial investigation indicates Sims was stabbed by a juvenile who had been living with Sims. The teenager fled the scene on foot, but was later apprehended and taken to Strickland Youth Center.

The juvenile is charged with attempted murder.

The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the incident.
