A 70-year-old man was killed Tuesday in a traffic crash in Trussville.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Michael Jay Benge. He lived in Trussville.

The wreck happened at 11:52 a.m. in the 7200 block of Roper Road. Authorities said Benge was a passenger in an Isuzu Rodeo that left the road and struck a tree.

Benge was taken to St. Vincent’s East where he was pronounced dead at 12:58 p.m.

Trussville police are investigating.
