A Birmingham woman was killed Friday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in east Jefferson County.

Alabama State Troopers identified the fatality victim as Janice B. Crutcher. She was 70.

The crash happened at 4:30 p.m. on Interstate 459, about four miles east of Irondale.

Senior Trooper Justin O’Neal said Crutcher was driving a Ford Fusion when she left the road, struck a guardrail and then a bridge column. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
