Huntsville police are currently on the scene of a seven-vehicle crash on Interstate 565 eastbound near Exit 1.

A police spokesperson said the incident occurred around 6:30 a.m.

One person is being transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. One person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and three additional people are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

A second two-vehicle crash happened shortly after the larger one when traffic started backing up. No one in the second incident was injured.

All eastbound lanes of I-565 near Exit 1 are shutdown, according to police. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

At this time, it’s unknown when the lanes will reopen.
