Festival season is underway in Birmingham, and that means plenty of opportunities to hear good music, eat yummy food, show off your beloved pet and even help the environment. Here are seven May festivals you won’t want to miss, offering everything from salsa samples to wine tastings to folk performers.

BIRMINGHAM FOLK FESTIVAL

When: May 6, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

Where: Avondale Park, 4101 Fifth Ave. South, Birmingham.

What to expect: Live music from artists who play folk, bluegrass, blues, jazz, gospel and more. With food, arts and crafts, children’s activities and more.
