7 couples got married at Alabama library on Valentine’s Day: ‘They just kept showing up’
On Valentine’s Day seven couples lawfully wed at the Athens-Limestone Public Library.
“They just showed up and they just kept showing up — we were all giggly and excited. As the day progressed and more couples came, the staff was just amazed, and it created quite the buzz,” Jen Baxter said. “Our staff thought it was very cute and sweet and enjoyed the commotion of the day
She went on to say, “to our knowledge, they were all separate and just had the same idea to use the library’s notary services for their marriage licenses.”
The on-staff notary at the library is available Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and the cost is $3 per document. It is best to call ahead.
“We are seriously considering having a balloon arch next year — maybe even a free photograph,” Baxter said. “We’ll have to see what we come up with!”
