64-year-old Alabama man killed by falling tree limb

A 64-year-old man was killed when he was struck Monday evening by a falling tree limb in Bibb County.

Bibb County Coroner Patrick Turner identified the victim as Raymond Howard. He lived on Church Street in Centreville.

Authorities said Howard had just arrived home about 6:30 p.m. and exited his vehicle.

As he was walking up a flight of stairs in his front yard, a large limb snapped and fell onto Howard, hitting him in the head.

It was not storming at the time, but winds had been high for much of the day, Turner said.

A neighbor was also coming home from work, saw Howard on the ground and called 911, said Centreville Mayor Mike Oakley.

Howard was pronounced dead on the scene.

No one else was at the home at the time of the accident.

Centreville police encouraged residents with dead or dying trees on their property to please be proactive in getting them removed.
